individuals and businesses
It always seems that the larger the design agency, the less likely it is that you be will be communicating directly with the people responsible for the actual design and development of your site. The farther those responsible for development are from you, the slower they will be to react to changes, and the harder it becomes for them to accurately grasp your vision.
Working as a freelancer, I have fewer clients than larger design firms. My clients benefit enormously from this because it allows more time for personal interaction; I make myself available and am able to respond quickly to changes and feature requests. You'll get my personal cell number (the same one that I talk to my friends and family with) — not a business line.
If you're looking for a talented designer, excellent communicator and skilled individual capable in both design and development, get in touch.

I'm sure you've heard it before: good design needs time to bake in the oven.
Sometimes the perfect design just lands in your lap, although more often than
not it takes dozens of revisions. It's all very unpredictable. But race
conditions with your wetware is the last thing you want to deal with when
lp0 on fire. In order to mitigate some of this
unpredictability you need someone who understands the intricacies behind
modern web development.
Let's geek out for a moment: I run Debian* on the server and a combination of Arch and Windows 7 (Adobe products...) at home. I have a Vim-centric setup, utilizing xmonad , Vimperator , and the titular application itself for all development.
Currently, my language of choice is Ruby, and I've used Rails forever (did you really expect something else). Though as of late I've been doing more Python and Android development (and watching development of the Haskell web framework Snap). I've developed several CMSes, a Project Management System, and have written enough JavaScript to appreciate the good parts ( oh yeah - fork me on Github). I ( begrudgingly ) tolerate PHP.
Are you seeking a designer who knows life outside of Adobe products? Someone who cares to know the difference between the MIT, BSD, and GNU licenses? If so, get in touch.
